Roger Abshire has an Impressive List of Accomplishments:
He has trained and worked with hundreds of teams in the areas of narcotic detection and patrol training. State certified Police officer through local Law Enforcement Training Academy.
Founded the Canine Standards International (CSI), an organization that sets the education and ethical standards for the certification of canines, handlers, and trainers. CSI standards are one of the highest in the United States. Roger served as the President of CSI and as an instructor at a number of trials conducted in the United States annually. Roger's expertise and high standards are well known in the Police Service Canine community and he has been asked to serve as both an instructor/ judge for the Law Enforcement Training Systems (LETS), The United States Police Canine Association (USPCA), the (IPSCA) International Police Service Canine Association and the National Narcotics Detector Dog Association (NNDDA).Elected as an instructor for the Canine Corrections Association (CCA), Angola State Penitentiary, Louisiana . Provided hands-on instruction and training to hundreds of Police Service dogs and K9 teams in handling techniques and problem solving. His training efforts resulted in the certification of hundreds of K9 teams currently working throughout the country. Served as instructor for the Acadian’ s Law Enforcement Training Academy (ALETA) an academy specifically for the state certification of police officers. Hosted and directed a seminar for the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy (MLEOTA). Served as an instructor for a number of canine team seminars throughout the United States . Awarded a sole source contract by the United States Government to train a highly specialized explosive detection canine for a highly critical and sensitive project. The Quality Engineering Directorate with the Research Development, and Engineering Center subjected the canine that he personally trained to an extensive qualification test and calculated that canine performed with an accuracy of 99.5%. This accuracy level far exceeded all expectations and for this outstanding achievement, Roger received a letter of appreciation and a contractor performance award for excellence in canine training and exceptional support to the US Government.
Entered into a five year Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with Geo-Centers, Inc., a major Department of Defense Explosive research contractor, to further the development of canine technology in the area of explosive, biological, and chemical detection for unique military applications. The proprietary training techniques that I have developed for training explosive canines are being now being documented as a trade secret. Continue to serve as a Canine Consultant/Trainer for a number of Law Enforcement agencies. Personally work with these departments on a monthly basis for the upkeep of standards and training. Continue to train a large number of service dogs annually to meet the specialized needs of Law Enforcement and Government Agencies. Active with the KNPV ( Koninklijke Nederlandse Politiehonden Vereniging). This is for the training of Police Service Dogs in Europe .
Training explosives/detector dogs for the Governments of the Dominican Republic , and Venezuela . Now in the process of working on a project through the United States Government concerning explosive kits for all explosive detector dog teams. Working with researchers on pioneering the detection of termites and experiments with Louisiana State University . Working as an instructor with various seminars around the country. Traveling and hand selecting Police Dog Prospects for Law Enforcement and Government agencies. Elected to the Law Enforcement Training Specialist Adviser to the Board of Regents & certifying official for the L.E.T.S organization. Working with the US Government on canine detection of biological systems. Full time commissioned Police K9 Officer with the local Police Department. Served as a expert witness in the state and Federal courts.
Canine consultant/trainer for the State of Georgia Special Operations Division . Assist over 35 dogs teams in Narcotic/Explosive detection. Trainer/Consultant for Angola State Penitentiary. Trainer/Consultant for large Police Departments and hundreds of other agencies.
Full time Commissioned Officer for the local Police Department as K9 Handler. Competed in the National Police Olympics for Police Service dogs as a fully commission officer with in-service canine “Ripp” (Belgian Malinois). Placed first in Narcotic Detection; first in Obedience; Second in Manwork; Second in Top Dog; Second in Patrol.
Worked/assisted Bomb detection teams for the Department of Energy for the United States Government. Expert Witness for the Federal courts in Police Service Dogs. Elected member of the L.E.T.S. Law Enforcement training specialist’s board of regents.
Summary :
In his career, He has trained/assisted hundreds of dogs/teams that have met or surpassed the standards of the USPCA, IPSCA, LETS, NPCA and NNDDA. A large number of the dogs and K9 teams that he has trained have placed and won trials in the organizations mentioned above.
